Miami Medical DVD ‘a long shot’

14 Dec

In the thick of the holiday season as we are, I have been wishing that I could deliver some good news by way of a gift to you all. Specifically, I had hoped we would have some information about what Jeremy might be working on next. But it looks as though that will have to wait a little longer. I’m afraid I don’t know if he is currently working on something that is yet to be publicised, or whether he is taking a break.

As you know, Jeremy’s last major project was Miami Medical, a tv show which aired in USA, and which Jeremy finished filming in February of this year after what was, by all accounts, a gruelling work schedule. Many of us were hoping that Jeffrey Lieber, Miami Medical‘s creator, would be able to organise an on-demand DVD of the show. Jeremy has many fans who are not based in USA, many of whom either hadn’t seen the show at all, or had only managed to watch it online. Jeffrey has been a great friend to this blog, so I know it was not without disappointment that he told me this week:

The on-demand DVD got bogged down in the cost of clearing the music. Apparently, I learn, music is automatically cleared for broadcast, but there is a SECOND cost for DVD/BLU-RAY distribution, which is prohibitive. Still looking into it, but it’s a long shot at this point.

This will come as a blow to many of you, I know. Be assured, however, that there WILL be some good news for Jeremy’s fans at some point (it’s very difficult to type with your fingers crossed, I’m finding), and as soon as I know anything about Jeremy’s next project, I will be sure to post it here.

Good grief, can't a man take a break ... ???

In the meantime, enjoy the holiday season and be thankful that Jeremy has made a lot of wonderful movies which ARE readily available on DVD! I’ll be finding time to watch Dean Spanley, Emma and Happy Texas, and I’ll be re-listening to his latest audiobook, Dark Matter: how about you?

Dearest Gill, you manage to make even the unhappiest of news or inconclusive news acceptable and even vaguely hopeful. Thank you for this report about Miami Medical.

Any news about Jeremy is like a present, even if its not as hopeful as we would like. I am curious, how did you make the acquaintance of Jeffrey and how did he get to be such a good friend to the blog. I think he is wonderful and you worked your magic to let him know how much we all cared about Jeremy.

Have happy days and a joyous holiday to all good members here and you Gill, a special thank you for all you do and all those who answer for and to us, like Debbie, etc. et al.

    Very Best,
    Rosie Tifft from USA

Thank you Rosie, your comments always bring a smile to my face! xxx
As for Mr Lieber: although he’s a very talented and successful man, he has always been very generous and approachable, and I first got in contact with him through Twitter, where he and co-exec producer Kristieanne Reed were talking about the show. I’m very grateful to both of them for being so generous to Jeremy’s fans. As you know, Jeremy himself prefers to keep his distance, so Jeffrey’s kindness has been wonderful for us. I’m also very grateful to him for working so hard to try to sort out an on-demand DVD. It’s such a shame (and not at all his fault) that it isn’t likely to be possible.
Wishing you very happy holidays, Rosie! xxx

Bah, humbug! I have a musician friend who has sold some of her music for TV & movies. She did allow a mutual friend who acts & produces some small independent films to use some, as well. Then she signed with a company who helps place the music in film & TV. After that, she couldn’t place her music with our friend because the cost became prohibitive. See & to check them out.

I wonder how many DVDs would need to be sold to cover the music fees & other costs? The demand could be increasing with the international releases. Maybe we could get a grass roots movement commitment going, and see if the demand is enough to cover the costs.

At least I have them all on my DVR. I need to pull them so I won’t lose them if there are technical difficulties!

Thanks for this, Robyn. I will drop Jeffrey a line and ask what numbers we would be looking at. (Do you think our families will mind if they all have a Miami Medical DVD as a gift every Christmas and birthday for the next 10 years … ??? lol! ).

    Dear Gill,
thanks for comforting us with your kind words and yes, thanks for reminding us on the lots of Jeremy`s work which we`re able to enjoy!
(under the motto, you yourself have given to us “I take what I can get”, if I remember and echo right)
And referring to your question: I`ll continue listening to “Dark Matter”, which is my companion for weeks and which I´m looking forward to discuss with you and the other listeners when there is no more danger to give away too much. Furthermore I´ll make a time journey from the 16th Century “The Tudors” to the 20th Century “Dean Spanley” and “The Net”.
(There you are, just now I´m painfully aware that I can`t watch the present work of Jeremy “Miami Medical”, sigh)
Rosie: best wishes and Merry Christmas to you, too.

Good choices, Martina, I hope you enjoy them (I’m certain you will!). xx

I fortunately watched the entire season and recorded it on DVD. Maybe I should start a library check out where I loan them out to other Jeremy fans. I know that there are many UK shows I can’t see either so I certainly understand how the fans feel. Helen
