Sad news…Miami Medical is not renewed

18 May

BREAKING NEWS…Jeffrey Lieber and Jonathan Littman, executive producers of Miami Medical, have just confirmed, via Twitter and Facebook, that Miami Medical has not been renewed by CBS.

Jeffrey Lieber says: The process – soup to nuts – of working on Miami Medical was the best professional experience I’ve ever had. Sadly, it goes no further. So, what’s next…

Jonathan Littman says: Rainy day brings gloomy news with COLD CASE and MIAMI MEDICAL not being renewed. A great run on one and a way too short run on the other.

I have to agree with Mr Littman, a paltry 8 episodes is not really enough to judge a show by, but the powers that be have spoken and I for one am very disappointed.

However, Jeffrey is a talented guy and I’m sure he will go onto other projects that we will enjoy as much if not more than Miami Medical. The Jer Blog will be sure to update on those.

In the meantime, we wait to see what Jeremy Northam will be doing next…

And don’t forget, we still have one more episode of Miami Medical to come, so tune in this Friday for the finale.

We will hear in the next few days about the fate of the remaining 5 episodes already filmed which would have constituted part of season two.

Don’t forget to check out SueVo’s blog, The Exploding Egg. Sue’s got a post up about the cancellation too.

If anyone would like to provide feedback to CBS about their decision, please visit the CBS website, scroll to the foot of the page, and select feedback.

UPDATE: the 5 episodes already filmed, which were to be shown as part of season 2, will now be aired between June 4 and July 2.

Painful…sorry to see the show go. I will miss seeing Jeremy in action. It seems we don’t get to see him enough! Wishing him better days ahead.

I hope we’ll get to see Jeremy doing what he does so very well before too long.

Thanks for the link to CBS, Gill. I just sent them a message telling them that in a parallel universe Jeremy’s starring in the top-rated new drama and LL Cool J’s show only lasted 8 episodes in a lousy time slot. (referring to NCIS Los Angeles)

This sucks. Boo! A whole bunch of shows got the ax though, including some big surprises, so I guess it’s nothing, personal, right?

I wonder what will happen to the remaining filmed episodes? I’m assuming there will be a DVD with everything on it. That will be what, 13 hours of Jeremy goodness!

    Sniff.. Still nursing wounds…

Yeah, it’s a real kick in the guts…but, you know, I don’t think the show is at all at fault. It has only had 8 episodes, and not the best timeslot. The least that CBS could have done, especially since they asked for 13 eps, was to air a second season before they made a decision. The show needed a lot more support in that way.
Jeffrey Lieber is working on what will happen with the 5 remaining eps, so when we have news on that I’ll post it here.
If you fancy venting at greater length, Jenny, it’d be great to have you write a post for us.

I agree. I don’t think the show was at fault either. It takes more than seven weeks in a crappy time slot to launch a show. I think of my favorite shows and most I didn’t start tuning in till much later. I sent a venting email to CBS. I’m sure it’ll get them quaking in their boots.

I’d love to do a post. I’ll send you an email.

    That’s great, Jenny, thanks!

I think CBS will have had quite a number of angry emails. One of the fans at Facebook is suggesting a campaign and wondering what we could band together and do…a compulsory rectal examination with a brick for all of them springs to mind…

Rats! I love this show! This is yet another show I fall in love with and it doesn’t go past season one! The second one this year! ( The other was The Forgotten on another channel ) 😦 I was wondering about this show as I saw a list of shows renewed and it wasn’t on it. I was hoping it was a mistake, until I saw this. 😦

Sorry Angela, unfortunately it’s true. If you read my interview with Jeffrey Lieber, the creator and exec producer of the show, he talks about some of the reasons behind it all. Check out SueVo’s interview with Jeffrey at The Exploding Egg too for more on this. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news…

I really looked forward to seeing Miami Medical, because I wanted to see Jeremy Northam. However, following the first show I saw less and less of Jeremy and more and more of young MD’s acting their arrogant selves–boring and so stereotypical–I did not see much of a story line and no depth to the actors. JN had little material to work with, very little behind the scenes to build personalities. I hope HE returns to television the other actors will find their way, but JN is an accomplished actor who is seen too little in this country.

Left a note on the CBS website, too. 😦
