Miami Medical, Man on the Road

12 May

I can’t quite believe there are only two more episodes of Miami Medical to go! But it’s true, this Friday’s episode is the penultimate, and it’s called Man on the Road. Much as I really enjoyed Calle Cubana, I’m delighted that the spotlight for this week will be back on my boy, the wonderful Jeremy Northam, as Proctor.

We’ve been teased and tantalised all the way through, with Mr Northam letting us see tiny glimpses of Matt Proctor, and by now we may feel we’ve got to know him a little (and fall in love with him a little too…), but we still don’t really know exactly how he got that scary scar (don’t you hate it when they talk about “cracking” someone’s chest?). Heart attack, 88 seconds, and he came back (but different), that’s about the sum total of our knowledge of “The Scar”. This week we finally find out exactly what happened.

DocProc's run isn't going well...

We’re told that this week’s episode and the season finale, An Arm and a Leg, will work as a pair, and certainly the cast list seems to be common to both episodes. Dr Proctor’s heart will be beating a little faster for another reason, courtesy of guest star Kari Matchett, who plays heart surgeon Dr Helena Sable in both episodes. Kari has worked with Jeremy before, she played one of his ‘wives’ in Cypher (2002, dir. Vincenzo Natali). Here’s a clip featuring Jeremy and Kari.

I remember, when we all discussed our hopes for Proctor’s storylines, spurred on by Jeffrey Lieber’s promise of the characters being allowed sex lives, we said we hoped Proctor would be getting some loving. It’s about time, I’d say!

In fact we’re being spoiled with guest stars, because Jeremy’s Tudors co-star James Frain also guests as one of the patients, and Kevin Weisman is ‘Moose’, the helicopter pilot.

Meanwhile, Alpha Team will be dealing with the aftermath of a small plane crash and a motorcycle accident (and for once we’ll see them working outside of the hospital)…although naturally, their thoughts will be with hospitalised colleague, Nurse Tuck, after he was stabbed in last week’s episode. And of course Serena Warren is feeling bad about what happened…has Dr C been comforting her?

Savour every delicious morsel, people, as we’ve only two more epiodes of this season to go. We should find out very soon about when and if the show is coming back. In the meantime, tell EVERYONE you know to watch!

Here’s the trailer.
