It’s nearly time to watch episode 3 of Jeremy Northam’s new show, Miami Medical. As you know, I’ve been bleating on about it for ages, saying how good it’s going to be, and how everyone should watch it. So, now that I’ve actually seen it, am I eating my words…?
Well NO, I most certainly am not! Just wait for a moment while I back-pedal slightly and say that I had one or two reservations after the pilot, but (motoring in the right direction again now…) actually that’s quite understandable, normal and not be worried about in the slightest. If I think back to all the pilots I’ve absolutely loved and I then recall the massive crash of disappointment when the next few episodes have been as flat as Parker Posey’s chest, then actually I think all is well with Miami Medical. Episode 2, 88 Seconds, was pacey, sparky, a little quirky (courtesy of my boy, Jeremy Northam) and the emotional highs and lows (so important in a hospital drama and so incredibly easy to completely foul up) were just right.
And so, HotDocProc, as played by the ever excellent Jeremy Northam…I think I said we should all watch Miami Medical merely because he is in it, and I allow myself a moment of smugness here because I WAS RIGHT! (I thank you…). Possibly, he has been more challenged in his acting career, but you know, I’m enjoying watching the master at work. Every little detail of his performances is carefully thought out; you will never get ‘phoned in’ from Jeremy. The chemistry with Elizabeth Harnois is already delightful (credit to her, she was excellent in episode 2). And the best is yet to come…
Jeffrey Lieber, exec producer and show runner, tells us that the arc of the story for season 1 is all about Proctor, and Jeremy (being rather an expert) has taken “Enigmatic” and run with it. I’m blowed if I know what his “deep, dark secret” is, and believe me when I tell you I have spent quite a lot of time thinking about it!
In tonight’s episode, What Lies Beneath, we find out a little more about Dr Proctor’s past, just enough to keep us tantalised…oh, and Mr Lieber promises us that “someone” will be “nekkid”!!
