Show Cancelations? Get A Grip

15 Apr

So two episodes of Miami Medical have aired, and already the Web is abuzz with talk of whether it will be canceled or not.

Two episodes? That’s like finding some hunky guy, going on a date, bringing him back to your place for a nightcap and then, just when the foreplay starts, breaking up with him.

Look, I have no idea how this process works. But it just seems silly to go to all the trouble of putting a show together on TV, promoting it, and then giving it the axe before it gets its footing.

I’m getting this from a couple links posted on the Jeremy Northam Chat message board, which is a great site both to meet cool people and to find information on Northam and his work.

One of the links goes to a story that says the show is on the bubble and might be renewed because it’s beating Ghost Whisperer: All Your Favorite Shows May Be Canceled

Another link goes to a story with a picture of Miami Medical on a tombstone with a headline that reads: Miami Medical: OK, Now It’s Dead

People, just calm down.

This strikes me, as somebody who’s been in the news biz for 14 years, as just another way to keep Web traffic about this and other shows buzzing while we wait to see what really happens. Do these guys really know anything? Probably not.

Neither do I, and I’m guilty of trying to hunt up hits myself.

But I genuinely like the show and I think it has some potential to turn into a quality series. And, well, even if the speculators are right and it is in trouble already after two episodes, eh, there’s always cable stations that could pick it up.

It just seems far too early to speculate, though. So cheer up, Miami Medical fans — after all, there’s a new episode out this Friday.
